A water retention model accounting for void ratio changes in double porosity clays

چکیده

Abstract This paper presents a constitutive model that predicts the water retention behaviour of compacted clays with evolving bimodal pore size distributions. In line previous research, differentiates between present inside saturated pores clay aggregates (the microstructure) and macrostructure). A new formulation is then introduced to account for effect macrostructural porosity changes on soil, which results in consistent evolution air-entry value suction volumetric deformations. Data from wetting tests three different active (i.e. MX-80 bentonite, FEBEX Boom clay), subjected distinct mechanical restraints, were used formulate, calibrate, validate proposed model. Results free swelling also modelled by using both double published single model, confirmed improvement predictions degree saturation approach. The might be applied, example, simulation hydromechanical engineered bentonite barriers underground nuclear waste repositories, where are structure under restrained volume conditions.

A Coupled Cosserat Two-Phase Double Porosity Flow Model

Rock strata in a coal mining environment are essentially bedded in nature and hence exhibit specific load-deformation characteristics. Mining may induce shearing as well as separation along the bedding planes which may result in bending and subsequent fracturing of the rock layer. This on the other hand may substantially change the in situ fluid flow properties of the rock mass, such as permeab...

Accounting for uncertainty in dual porosity descriptions of fractured systems

Fractures have crucial impact on flow in reservoirs. In naturally fractured reservoirs (NFR) the fracture network alone can be the dominant factor in fluid transport. Fractures as geological discontinuities introduce a high level of complexity into the entire reservoir modeling workflow. In current practice, the geological modeling of fractures and flow simulation are considerably disconnected,...
